Investment Planning Guide

Submitted on April 1, 2010 by

We all make investments for different reasons – sometimes it is for retirement, sometimes for college funding and sometimes for property purchases. No matter how much you wish to invest, if you do not have proper planning for your investments will not be doing any good for your future. Everyone who is serious about making investments needs counseling on investments and a planning guide.

One of the first rules of investment planning is the setting of goals. The goals help to fix a target which we aim and based on which we make our planning. These investment goals have to be definite, specific, realistic and detailed. You need to put different dates so that you are aware when you can make investments and when you have money to make these investments. You also need to decide how much you wish to invest. Once you think you have made your goals clear, you need to just write them down. When you write down your investment goals, it provides you a clear idea and helps you to prioritize your goals.

Another important part of investment planning is defining the time. It means deciding the time within which you wish to work on all your goals. This is very essential in case of planning for retirement. You will also have to decide when you wish to open up your investments and when you wish to use them. This helps you to understand how aggressive you need to be in your investment portfolio.

There are several people who believe that if they are planning for their retirement, it means they have to make an investment of a huge amount. This is not bad but it is also not necessary also. It is possible to save for retirement, even by investing small amounts in a very systematic manner. It is also important to think about how much you plan to invest and how you are going to contribute. Do you wish to invest on a monthly basis or an annual basis? It is also important to have patience in the entire period and not be restless enough to quit your investment plan all of a sudden.
